Volvo EX60 Covers More Than 350 Miles in a Real-World Drive Despite a 312-Mile EPA Rating

Volvo's new electric SUV has delivered more range in a real-world test than its official rating. Electrek reports that the EX60 has an EPA-estimated range of 312 miles, but in real-world conditions it drove over 350 miles without stopping. I have only seen the summary, so I do not know the driving conditions, speed, temperature or who carried out the test.

Official range figures are produced using standardised test procedures so that cars can be compared fairly. Real-world results depend on speed, terrain, weather, tyres, climate control and driving style, and they can be higher or lower than the rating. Many EVs, particularly in the United States, return less than their rated range at high speed or in cold weather, which makes a result that exceeds the rating notable.

It is wise to treat a single test as an example, not a guarantee. Testers sometimes choose favourable routes, such as moderate speeds on flat roads, and efficiency drops sharply at motorway speeds. Still, the result suggests that Volvo's efficiency may be good, which matters because range affects how convenient a car is for long trips.

The story fits with other developments from Volvo, which has expanded its partnership with Nvidia on driver assistance and automated driving. For buyers, the best approach is to look at independent tests under different conditions, check charging speeds and compare the cost of ownership. Do not choose a car solely on peak range, because charging infrastructure and real usage patterns matter as well. Watch for further tests from other publications, which will provide more data on how the EX60 performs in different circumstances.
