Mercedes-AMG has taken the wraps off a high-performance electric SUV. Electrek reports that the AMG GT SUV is an all-electric model with up to 1,153 hp from three axial-flux motors and DC fast charging at up to 710 kW. The first units are due to reach U.S. dealerships in summer 2027, according to the report.
The charging figure is eye-catching. A peak of 710 kW would be among the highest ever claimed for a production car, though real-world charging speeds depend on the charger, battery temperature and state of charge, and few public stations can deliver that much power. The power numbers are also large, and axial-flux motors, which are flatter and often lighter for their output, are a notable technology choice.
Electrek calls the car AMG's answer to the Porsche Cayenne Electric and says that, on paper, it may be more impressive. That comparison shows how competitive the high-performance EV segment has become. I have not seen pricing, range or weight figures, and those will matter greatly for how the car compares with rivals.
For most people, such a car is out of reach, but halo models often showcase technology that later reaches more affordable vehicles. They also show where carmakers see their strengths. Readers who are interested should wait for independent tests, which will reveal how the car performs on the road, how much of the claimed charging speed is achievable and how it handles. Watch for official announcements about prices and market launches, and for reactions from rival performance brands.
